Waterbridge Media proudly continued its partnership with the Department of National Defence (DND) through its Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program to share the success of Canadian military innovation at work. In this latest engagement, Waterbridge was tasked to produce a case study video that brings to life a remarkable initiative that could have global impact: developing cutting-edge technologies to enable safe passage through minefields in conflict zones like Ukraine.

Since 2018, the IDEaS program has been supporting Canadian companies developing solutions to real-world defence challenges. One of those challenges—minefield breaching—has taken on urgent relevance in Ukraine and other regions where current mine-clearing methods are too dangerous or time-consuming. The Canadian-led "Safer Passage During Minefield Breaching Operations" project brings together the best of innovation from Teledyne, Thales, and Agile to create an integrated system of drones, sensors, and AI tools capable of detecting and clearing mines safely and efficiently for military operators.

Waterbridge Media provided comprehensive video production services—from pre-production planning to final delivery. Working closely with DND and the participating companies, we crafted the story from the ground up, beginning with scripting, storyboarding, and extensive travel planning to visit each innovator’s facility across Ontario.

Filming on-location at Teledyne, Thales, and Agile allowed us to record in-depth interviews with key project leads, as well as dynamic b-roll footage that showcased the technology in action. Our production team coordinated every detail, from lighting and audio to drone footage and motion graphics, ensuring a polished and professional visual narrative.

Post-production was just as meticulous to meet federal standards. We sourced music, voice talent, and supplemental stock footage to complement the original visuals. Waterbridge media video editors weaved everything together, applying expert colour grading, sound design, and a custom-branded animated intro that aligned with the IDEaS program’s visual identity.

Recognizing the importance of accessibility and reach, we delivered the final video in both English and French, complete with closed captioning that meets federal accessibility standards. We also provided platform-optimized versions for web, social, and internal presentations, ensuring the case study could be used flexibly across government and partner channels.

The final two-minute video provides a snapshot story of Canadian defence innovation with real-world impact—technology that not only supports military operations but could save lives in civilian mine-clearing efforts around the world.

This project is a strong example of how Waterbridge Media brings technical storytelling to life. Our work doesn’t just document innovation—it amplifies it. By producing high-quality, accessible, and engaging video content, we help our clients inspire confidence, drive investment, and spark global attention.
